These words not only describe the spirit of our CEO Gianfranco Bianchi but also the premise of an inspirational and emotional life story that has led to where he is today. From the son of a family whose passion is rooted in furniture to a prolific and experienced luxury furniture specialist, his life is the epitome of perseverance.
Gianfranco Bianchi was born in a family that owned three sofa manufacturers in Italy during the 20th century and spent his childhood exploring wood, leather, and foam materials. With the zeal running through his veins, he quickly stepped in and became an indispensable piece in the business by taking over the management of the second factory at 26 years old. He was also selected to work as the Area Manager for a few Italian furniture brands in his early days.
The turning point of Gianfranco Bianchi’s life was at the age of 21, when a fire was kindled and burned like never before in this young man’s heart after his visit to Asia. He traveled to Singapore, China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan to experience different landscapes. Wanting to experience these cultures to their fullest, he learned to eat with chopsticks, enjoyed local food and grew rapport with local people. By living and working like a local, he gained a deep comprehension of each nation’s values and saw the potential the Asia-Pacific market had even when it was not yet a hotspot.
Something got ignited. A dream. An acknowledgment. A vision. And finally, Italian Atelier, a pioneer in connecting the Asia Pacific market with European luxury furniture brands, was launched in 2008 by Gianfranco and his brother Dino Bianchi, as a summation of all knowledge and experience, marking the beginning of the luxury lifestyle’s new era.
“The insight and experience I gathered from working in my family’s business, which specialized in supplying interiors, as well as from visiting the most important industry events (i.e. Salone del Mobile, Maison & Objet, Proposte) have given me a broad overview of where the design industry is today, and a clear vision of the role I want to play in it.” – Gianfranco Bianchi.
In the early 2000s, when Asia was not yet an emerging market, the Bianchis spent a great amount of time doing strict market research and building relationships with prospective clients. Despite knowing that they were doing the opposite to other people, they had a firm belief in their vision and chose to be consistent with their mission. Gianfranco Bianchi himself has encountered many setbacks and breakdowns in his journey, being rejected again and again. But what he has responded to every arduousness of life is a more enthusiastic and determined heart. The Bianchi brothers realized that what connected them to Asian customers was developing great rapport with the locals, understanding their culture and traditions, and emerging themselves in their world without biases and stereotypes. They also realized what sets them apart for the clients is the empathy in art. Gianfranco Bianchi’s philosophy is: “To have the utmost respect for every client. Each project/client is completely different and it’s essential to capture the project’s unique spirit and DNA. The singular thread running through all of our work is respect, artistic quality, and expertise.”. Therefore, they do not sell the products, they sell the stories.
Years of hard work and perseverance have paid off when Gianfranco Bianchi from a sales manager for mid-level furniture companies now has become a household name and the CEO of a multinational company that represents over 40 prestigious luxury furniture brands, namely Armani/Casa, MissoniHome, Wiener GTV Design, Poltronova, among others. Gianfranco’s experience has developed tremendously alongside his team, which now numbers over 20 talented and skilled individuals spread across 6 countries, covering projects in more than 30 countries and territories, encompassing all major brands and essentially every form of product and asset class.
Thirteen years of development, but also thirteen years of commitment to initial values: accuracy, integrity, and reliability. He does not shy away from making mistakes as he sees them as opportunities to learn and grow, just as much as how he does not lean on to victories for too long. The company was built on his belief and passion that have never once waived and it is easy to explain why Italian Atelier got to where it is today.
